The Bichon Havanese has many names - in France are Havanais, and Portugal they are called Havanes, while in the UK they are Havanese
They have also been called the “silk dog of Havana” Havanese is the national dog of Cuba, developed from the now extinct Blanquito de la Habana. The Blanquito descended from the also now-extinct Bichón Tenerife. It is believed that the Blanquito was eventually cross-bred with other bichon types, including the poodle, to create what is now known as the Havanese
Bred as a companion dog to the Cuban aristocracy in the 1800s, they’ve earned the nickname “Velcro dog” because they stick so closely to their owner’s side. He can suffer from separation anxiety when left alone, (especially when an only dog) and does best when someone is home during the day to keep him company. The Havanese loves to watch the world from up high, and will find his way onto the backs of sofas and tables to watch the day pass by
We do not do well living outside, we prefer to be in a nice comfy armchair close to our family, we love to play so a garden is perfect for us
We are a happy family of 9, living in Ribatejo with a big garden to run and play, we also love to go to the beach
But most of all, we enjoy pleasing our human family and being loved
